“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” – Simon Sinek.
This principle is called the Golden Circle, developed by Simon Sinek. The key question that the Golden Circle answers is, why do you do what you do? This technique helps you find your deep and meaningful objectives find your inspiration behind your actions. How can this fundamental truth make you succeed both in business and leadership?
In his TED Talk, Sinek asks these questions: “Why is it that some companies like Apple (back in the day) are industry leaders?” “Why do some keep innovating while others seem stuck in the past?” He found out that those successful organizations have had a different approach than most of their counterparts.
For example, most companies can say WHAT they do, a company that builds cell phones. They can also pull off a great explanation of HOW they do it – great technologies, intelligence, and all, but WHY do they do what they do? Successful companies first answer the WHY, and once the actual reasons for doing something are identified, they can now easily align the actions to execute the WHAT. This question also sparks a fire within your inner strength to do the impossible. Once you figure out your WHY, as the golden circle suggests, you will realize your full potential, which will resonate with the surrounding people. You will attract people who share the same passion and help people get more out of life. And that’s what makes an outstanding leader. You know your purpose; now you can help people to do it.
With this concept, successful leaders and businesses provide their employees and customers with a reason to believe – this will move them to be driven by the fire inside – to move mountains. And by this, they get the WHAT done, and that’s where success comes from.
So here’s a question for you: WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? Start with WHY, find your fire, communicate it inside out, and succeed in business and leadership!
